Ferrari: the Italian car brand through the years

Posted on

The Italian car brand Ferrari has a rich history. Since its founding, the brand has launched many great supercars with class, power and flair. For a long time, Ferrari has also shone in Formula 1, where the car brand’s drivers achieve many successes. But how did the Italian car brand originate and where, for example, does the yellow logo with the prancing horse come from?

The history of Ferrari

Ferrari has a rich history in both Formula One and producing top cars. Since its inception, it has launched a host of great cars and achieved many successes in Formula One.

The founding

In 1929, Scuderia Ferrari is founded as a racing team by Enzo Ferrari in Maranello, near Modena. Until 1938, Scuderia Ferrari functions as a racing stable for Alfa Romeo and many victories are achieved. In 1939, Enzo leaves Alfa Romeo and the name Ferrari is not allowed to be associated with racing cars for 4 years.

Designing own cars

Around 1945, Ferrari begins designing its first car and in 1947 the first Ferrari enters the market: the Ferrari 125 S. In the following years, Enzo continues to develop in the field of mechanics and automotive engineering. This is therefore the period when the car brand lays the foundation for the current program in which Ferrari launches one great car after another.

Ferrari wants to grow on all fronts and therefore needs more capital. On this basis, a cooperation with Fiat comes in 1969. Where Ferrari’s reputation was already growing, its capital also grows thanks to the cooperation with Fiat. In the following years, Ferrari produces world-famous models such as the Testarossa, 308 GTB and 208 GTB. With the production of these cars and all of Ferrari’s Formula One successes, the company only continues to grow. The Ferrari F40 is Enzo’s last piece of art before he dies in 1988. Ferrari continues to produce fantastic and elegant cars in the 1990s and into the new century that are highly appreciated by the general public.

Italian supercars with elegant looks

The cars produced by Ferrari are distinguished by class, power and flair. Supercars from Ferrari have a sporty and elegant look, a combination that makes Ferraris quickly stand out on the road. When you sit down in a Ferrari, you cannot help but be impressed by the car’s outstanding power and the terrifying sound coming from the engine.
Some supercars that Ferrari is currently stealing the show with are the Ferrari 458 Italia, F12 Berlinetta and California. The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, for example, looks a bit like a Grand Tourer and possesses an amazing 6.3L V12 engine. Couple that with a top speed of 340 mph, and with this version of Ferrari you truly have a top car.

Ferrari was, is and remains a hugely popular car brand throughout the world. Ferrari’s design, power and exclusivity make the cars highly sought after among car enthusiasts. With a top-of-the-line Ferrari car, you have speed and luxury in an Italian designer car.

The black prancing horse and yellow of Modena

There are many theories about the origins of Ferrari’s logo. Many people think that the rearing horse on the logo was Enzo’s favorite horse. Red is also thought to be Ferrari’s original color. Both are not true. The original color of Ferrari is yellow. Enzo chose yellow since it is the official color of his hometown of Modena. And the horse prancing? A gift from Duke Enrico Barracca, the father of fighter pilot Francesco Barracca who died during the war. Francesco flew a plane during the war depicting a black rearing horse. After an outstanding race in 1923, Enzo Ferrari received the black rearing horse as a gift from the Duke, whereupon he decided to put the symbol on all Ferraris.
